Image/Digital Asset System

We discussed several options for digial assets systems today. We mainly looked at sharepoint server 2007 for this.  Currently I do not hve much of a opinion on this but if anyone can out there using sharepoint for this post a comment!

Distance ED

With Antonio Garza’s help we will make a Executive SUmamry for Dr. Rouse.  This will go over the “general” idea of how to proceed with Distance Ed for FISH.  This will be a rather large undertaking.

SAM - Site Update

Updated the SAM site today.  Added a rotating FLASH image system.  I think I will adjust these images every other month.

http://www.auburn.edu/sam

Also added tomarows speaker to the site.

I plan to add a  upload or community section so members of SAM can add news articles and other items that they wish to share with the group beyound e-mail.  WordPress would be a good idea to use for it. Something to look into.

Slow Friday

This has been a slow Friday.  Mainly due to the faculty interviews we are perfoming.  I accomplised no web work today ;-)

Instead I setup some video conferening with the help of CTU and have begun editing yesterdays seminar for the website.

I will place a link here once I complete the edits.  It will be kinda boring unless you are into fish!  I plan to use the flash video player to encode and compress it.  I find it works pbetter ina SWF file.  Then again I am really new to playing with this vide stuff

Alumni E-Newsletter

FAA was wanting to have a e-newsletter.  Sounds simple.  Well it was a pain in the ass.  For one I was not goign to write a mass e-mail system from scratch.  And two, like always it was needed yesterday!

I opted to find a open source or even purchase a system.  I found a really nice Coldfusion system that suits all my needs.  From direct clicks, to allowing me to add custom fields as I see fit.  sounds perfect huh ;-)

Well our first letter went out and the linking to other sites did not work.  I spent at least 2 hours looking for the error cursing up a storm.  The problem was simple and my fault.  In the install I accidenlty left of a “\”.  Silly huh!

Fish Disease Diagnostics Web App

Concept: This application will allow (hopefully) farmers, or the public, to submit their disease problems that they would like diagnosed through the web. This use to be done by hand and faxed in.  By having this form placed on the web it will not only allow for easier legiability for the technician, but will keep the information sotred in a database for future access.

Once the farmer hits “submit” a e-mail or some other way, is sent to the lab informing them of the submitted forms. ….. Read the rest of this entry »

This site was intended to provide information to the public on aquatic resources… A lot of work has been placed into this site at this point. We are using Contribute 3.11 to maintain content. This makes my life easier, as the programmer, and allows me to focus on development of the site and web applications that can help imrpove the user experience.

Initial Post of FAA Site

Since I have begun working on the Fisheries & Allied Aquacultures website there have been at least 3 revisions.  This is a bit unusual, but mos t of the design was done by commmitee.

The summer of 2006 the office of communications and marketing released university standards.  This was a great deal of help and finally released me from design by commitee.  They allow us a good deal of flexability on the design side as long as we stay in guidelines.  Basically color, logos and that sort of ordeal.

I have made the site a bit unique by adding a flash rotating image system on the front page.  This will be updated monthly with new photos of faculty, staff, students and facilites.

A majority of the site is using the same format..

I am looking for a good clean way to display faculty information.  I will not have to worry about updates to much, since I will be distrubting Contribute 3.11 to  the faculty.

I am about to launch a new layout for the facilites section as well.

Completed the Ireland Center Page.  Several items could not be entered into it do to no information.  I have left that part up to the individual faculty who’s research resides there.  Once again, they can update text using C3, of course I will be available for assitance as needed.
