Facilites report requirements

After thinking about how the best way to present this type of form will be through a internet form.  Which is diffrent from the PDF document we hurridly put together last year.

1.  Ability to have multiple PI’s
2.  Drop down menu to select number of students for the project. This will also include all contact information of the student.

3.  Auto Expansion on all ‘paragraph’ type questions

4.  All items that can be multiple i.e. facilites be setup so the user picks how many items they need and the form auto-builds the desired number.

5.  Allow dollar amount to be next to account number,
5B.  Budget sheet is built autmoatically based upon account numbers and dolalr amount

6.  State vechicles and Aerator costs will be given prior to form being ‘live.’

7.  Create archive database that keeps track of ALL requests.  This will assist in making Renee’s life simplier.  As well as allowing us to see a historical trend.

8.  Ability for the submitter to come back later to make changes to their form.  I am still trying to deciede the best approach for this item.  Once I figure this out I will let everyone know.

Converted our Wordpress theme on the Fish site into AU’s template.  That was bear.  At least it is compelte and is in compliance now.  Overall it looks nice.

auburnwww and my self have to revamp the AWW website.  Not fun.  Especially since it is several months earlier than I wanted to even consider doing it.

We have done several site layouts and have come up with one that should suffice.  Of course with a few changes by the client.

Figured using the Spry menus wil lsave space and allwo for a cleaner over all look.

1.  WE need one main entry page for the multiple projects that they have.

I will post a link of this pre-design look just for posteriety sake.

Our goal is to provide the students of FAA with a way to find internships and post resumes. This sytem will incorporate:

1. Companies will submit info to FAA and we will psot the Job information for our students
2. Grad student postitions
3. Resume Builder adive and a step by step system to allow such things
4. USe Macenia & DeVries’s Resume as examples. THey look the best for Acadamic

I am thinking that by adding a drag and drop type system for sections and abilty to print from the APP via either PDF or Flash paper will only enahnce the app more.

Currently leaning more towards flash paper I am a flash addict for sure!

Was having touble doing this in coldfusion so I am going to take the PHP approach until I learn more about the CF and Flex intergration.

PHP will allow me to conn to the dbase via XML.  A bit more time consuming coding wise but since I do not know anyone tha can do flex this will have to do for the time beaing.  OR at least Version 1.0 !

Well I added WordPRess to the FAA Website. I am goign ot be using it to manage news items. Currently I have it feeding into our front page to display news items, 5 at a time. This keeps me from having to manually update the front page, as well as it keeps a dynamic arcive for me and anyone else wanting to look at past articles.

Also went ahead today and added past articles into the Blog from Ag-Illustrated.   This went as far back as Summer 2003.  We have more news stories from earlier days but, I have no idea were to look for those.

Minor changes today.  Deans office is having us remove the “pre-professional” part on heatlh care off of the future studetns web site.  If students do not ask directl we are not to advertise that we offer such.  Seems silly to me overall, but I do not make these decisions!  Thank god lol!

We plan to stream today’s faculty interviews so most of my day is spent setting upfor that and editing it.  UGG I will never learn Flex at this rate !!!

Shaolin from Genetics is wanting  a custom location to develop a genetics project. From discussion with him early on Richard F. figured it would be wise to get the rest of the group involved. 

The reasoning behind this was due to the posiblity of strain on the web server… after more conversations with Shaolin, Richard was correct. 

Decision was made to either place him on a older solaris machine running Solaris 10 or  free standin Linux box.  Greg would like to avoid the linux box option if at all possible.  Since CTU is not using any at the moment.  We seem to be running more and more Window boxes now.  NOt hurint my feelings ;-)  I do not have to worry much about it.  It does worry me that ASP might be pushed on us.  I am not really a fan of asp..

Since I have begun working on the Fisheries & Allied Aquacultures website there have been at least 3 revisions.  This is a bit unusual, but mos t of the design was done by commmitee.

The summer of 2006 the office of communications and marketing released university standards.  This was a great deal of help and finally released me from design by commitee.  They allow us a good deal of flexability on the design side as long as we stay in guidelines.  Basically color, logos and that sort of ordeal.

I have made the site a bit unique by adding a flash rotating image system on the front page.  This will be updated monthly with new photos of faculty, staff, students and facilites.

A majority of the site is using the same format..

I am looking for a good clean way to display faculty information.  I will not have to worry about updates to much, since I will be distrubting Contribute 3.11 to  the faculty.

I am about to launch a new layout for the facilites section as well.

Completed the Ireland Center Page.  Several items could not be entered into it do to no information.  I have left that part up to the individual faculty who’s research resides there.  Once again, they can update text using C3, of course I will be available for assitance as needed.
